Seahawks Swarm Defense

Myrtle Beach Defense | The Seahawk Swarm

Myrtle Beach Seahawks football has always been known for having explosive

offensives behind offensive mastermind, head coach Mickey Wilson. This

year coach Wilson has a good defense to go with a great offense.

The Hawks defense has only allowed an average of 7 points a game in

arguably the toughest region in state. West Florence and Darlington were held

scoreless against the Seahawks Swarm defense (West Florence's only score

came from a special teams mishap). Seahawks held Hartsville elite running

game to 14 points. South Florence was scoring close to 50 points a game until

they met Myrtle Beach who held the Bruins to 17 points. The Seahawks were

able to shut down North Myrtle Beach and Wilson allowing only 6 points in

each contest.

Myrtle Beach's defensive coordinator, Coach Owens, is known for coming up

with creative defensive schemes to slow down opposing teams offenses. The

Seahawks defenders so far have been executing Coach Owens' game plan.

Defensive Line

Defensive Tackles Vinny Cavalcante and Shamir Harrison are explosive off the

ball, very physical, and great against the run. The Seahawks have one of the

best pair of defensive ends in the state with Dalton Epps and Tre Phillips. Epps

and Phillips have great size, fast off the edge, and put the squeeze on opposing

quarterbacks and offenses.

Linebackers

The Hawks have an excellent corp of linebackers. Cam Ward is the leading

tackler who is very fast and athletic. Linebackers Ashton McSwain and Tyron

Bryant are headhunters and play physical. Senior Frank Goings plays

extremely smart and loves to play downhill. Sophomore Ricky Escabor has been

a big surprise this season with the ability to make big plays.

Defensive Backs

Tyron Miles is the lock down corner for the Seahawks. The Hawks secondary

is anchored by 6'3" DB Jordan Chestnut who is solid against the pass and

outstanding against the run. Josh Gunn is the play maker who creates turnovers

all over the field. Michael Gilliard solid all around cornerback who loves contact.

Can the Seahawk Swarm Defense continue it's dominance during the playoffs?

If the Hawks can hold their opponents to less than 13 points a game in the playoffs,

making it to the state championship should be very probable for this team.
